Moonjin Kim, Mezzo-soprano, is born in Seoul, Korea She began her formal study of music at Yonsei University in Seoul and earned a bachelor’s degree in vocal performance. After graduation, she attended Verdi National Music School in Italy, and later completed a Biennio program at Piacenza National Music School. After completing her formal studies, she was awarded first place at the Bologna National Competition. As her first debut after the award, she performed the role of Suzuki in Madama Butterfly in a European tour with a highly favorable review describing her voice as ‘noble, appealing, and warm.’ She also performed as Maddalena in the Rigoletto European tour. Later, her dramatic voice and excellent acting was spotlighted from her role as Santuzza in Cavalleria Rusticana. In addition, she also performed the following male roles fitting to her heavy and masculine voice: Liscione (Castrato) in La Dirindina by G.Battista Martini’s intermezzo, Beppe in L’amico Fritz, Cherubino in Le nozze di Figaro, Romeo in I Capuletti ed I Montecchi, Orfeo in Orfeo ed Euridice by Gluck. Now she is preparing for the role of Azucena in Il Trovatore for her upcoming opera European tour to be held in various theaters like Brescia and Vercelli.
Major theaters she has performed at include Großes Festspielhaus Salzburg, Auditorium di Milano La Verdi, München Philharmonie Concert Hall, Municipale di Piacenza (Italy), Belluno Civic Theater (Italy), Russe Civic Theater (Bulgaria), Kunstmin Civic Theater…. His repertoire includes Lieder (Schumann, Strauss, Brahms, Mahler), Mélodies (Champs d’Auvergne by Joseph Canteloube) and movie theme music (Morricone)
